ok so i intended on doing multiple birthday posts, and not only did I completely fail at that, I haven't written an entry in over a week! and frankly, I didn't have much time to do so at the time that I started drafting this blog (Jan 4). At the time, I was a mere couple of hours from hopping on a plane to head off to Kansas City to visit my friend Josh, who is leaving this week for a 2-year stint in the Peace Corps stationed in Niger, Africa. (btw- Check Joshua's Walkabout if you feel so inclined as to hear about a Peace Corps adventure ) I'm very proud of him and so accepted the invitation to go to KC to attend his going away party. The party was awesome, the weekend was a blast. Josh is truly one of my most favourite people on the planet, and I am very proud of him and very lucky to have him as a friend...
So needless to say, I did not have time to blog while I was away for the weekend, and so am only now doing a quick recap of the rest of the holidays.
Honestly, the open house had on my birthday was slightly disappointing. Quite a few people who I had hoped would be there, didn't show up. And yes I've ben gone 8 years, and I shoudl be used to the fact that people are going to be busy, especially over the holidays, and that frankly, they don't have time for me. It's a sad realization, that I'm not sure I like having to accept.
I'm sure you're all dying to know just how many dared to break the golden birthday rules; there were only a few, ok a couple... ok there was one: My father.... (insert sound of organ playing that "dum dum dum" sound of horror). Ok so my father and I have not been the closest since oh he left 9 years ago. I don't keep this fact hidden, I just tend not to talk much about him. So if you've ever wondered why I've always made mention of visiting my mom, going home to mom, etc, that's why. He's not dead, just relatively non-existent in my life. So how/what birthday rule did he break? One of the biggies... yep as he handed me a card he said "this is for your Christmas and your birthday". (of course this was only after I gave him a re-gifted box of CC Rye with glasses that mom got as a hostess gift from our open house, which the fact that he didn't give it to me until after I gave a gift to him kinda epitomizes his claim of how I'm a bad daughter). ANYHOO- point of the story- Good job peeps! Thanks for indulging me in my selfish-narcissitc ways. *please do not take this as me not being grateful for gifts received- I truly don't need gifts to be happy, but it's simply in the spirit of if you're going to do it, then why not do it right!*
And so the piece de resistance of birthday presents? well that goes to mom for getting me my personalized liscense plate: BECS 4RE Thanx mom!
